The palatal expander "expands" (or widens) your upper jaw by putting gentle pressure on your upper molars each time an adjustment is made. The animation below will instruct you about when and how to adjust your expander. When you achieve the desired expansion, you will wear the appliance for several months to solidify the expansion and to prevent regression.

In a well-lit area, tip the patient's head back.
Place the key in the hole until it is firmly in place.
Push the key toward the back of the mouth. You will notice the fender will rotate and the new hole will appear. The rotation stops when the key meets the back of the expander.
Press back and down toward the tongue to remove the key. The next hole for insertion of the key should now be visible.
"The best orthodontics partnership in Rocklin. I've personally met all the staff and in-house technicians. Their dedication and attention to detail is of the highest caliber. Both Dr. Martin and Dr. Alexander are really friendly and take a personal interest in each patient. I highly recommend them."
"Really nice staff. Dr. Martin took his time to explained the treatment for my 10-year-old son, his office made us feel very comfortable. He's very easy going, professional, and caring. His staff is courteous and friendly. The office environment is very positive, they make it fun by having raffles, games in the lobby, TV, plenty of reading material, and at our last visit they had gourmet cookies."
"New options now for braces that make things less conspicuous while wearing braces. Things have changed from when I was a kid! I'm feeling really good about where my son is going, and how he's going to look at the end of this process. I highly recommend this office!!!"
